Your needs
Birth control if you keep forgetting pills
Quick answer
If you often forget pills, a method you do not have to think about every day will protect you much better. The implant and IUDs are the most effective because there is nothing to remember for years; the injectable needs a visit every 13 weeks. If you want to stay on the pill, a daily alarm and a tracker help, and the Missed Pill Helper covers what to do when you slip.
Why forgetting matters
With perfect use, the pill is very effective. In typical use, about 7 in 100 users get pregnant in a year, mostly because pills get missed or packs start late [src]. With the implant or an IUD it is fewer than 1 in 100, because there is nothing to forget [src].
Methods with nothing daily
- Implant: 3 years, free at health centers, POPCOM and Likhaan, subject to supply [src].
- IUD: copper or hormonal, lasting years.
- Injectable: one shot every 13 weeks. Use the injection calculator for your next date.
Staying on the pill? Make it easier
- Set a daily phone alarm and keep the pack next to something you use every day, like your toothbrush.
- Use the pill tracker, which keeps your data on your device.
- A combined pill has a 24-hour window for counting a pill as missed; lynestrenol pills like Daphne (lynestrenol) have only 3 hours [src]. If you are forgetful, a progestin-only pill with a 3-hour window is harder.
- Buy your next pack before you finish the current one.
Missed one?

Frequently asked questions
Lagi akong nakakalimot mag-pills. Ano ang puwede?
Subukan ang implant, IUD o turok. Hindi mo kailangang tandaan araw-araw, at mas epektibo ang mga ito sa totoong buhay. Libre ang mga ito sa health center, depende sa supply.
What if I forgot two pills?
For most 30 to 35 mcg combined pills, WHO says missing 1 or 2 means taking one as soon as you remember and carrying on. For 20 mcg pills the stricter rule starts at 2. Use the Missed Pill Helper for your brand.
Is the injectable good for forgetful people?
It helps because it is only every 13 weeks, but you still need to remember the date. WHO allows the repeat shot up to 4 weeks late.
