How it works
| Device | Label duration | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Implanon or Implanon NXT (etonogestrel implant) | 3 years | Some studies support up to 5 years of use. Your provider decides. |
| Levoplant (2-rod levonorgestrel implant) | 3 years | |
| Copper IUD (Copper T 380A) | 10 years | WHO notes effectiveness for at least 12 years. Your provider decides. |
| Hormonal IUD (levonorgestrel 52 mg, Mirena type) | 5 years | Newer labels and studies support longer use for some products. Your provider decides. |
We use the duration on each product's label. Where studies support longer use, we say so, but your provider decides.[src] [TODO: source] link each product label.
Expired implant? Your right to removal
An expired implant stops protecting you; it does not become toxic. You can ask for removal at any time, and facilities that insert implants also remove them. Filipinas on Reddit report health centers refusing removals;[src] if that happens, ask another public facility or Likhaan and POPCOM.
